EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) — A motorist who had a heart attack but was kept alive by a stranger whom just minutes earlier he had stopped to help along a Wisconsin interstate has tearfully reunited with the woman who saved his life.
Registered nurse Sara Berg performed CPR on 61-year-old Victor Giesbrecht just a few miles along Interstate 94 from where Giesbrecht had helped her to change a flat tire Nov. 5. First responders later arrived and used an automated external defibrillator to restore a normal heart rhythm.
Berg tells the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram that they hugged and that Giesbrecht cried during their emotional reunion Wednesday evening at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, where Giesbrecht has been recovering.
Giesbrecht, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, says he doesn't think he would have survived without her help.
