WASHINGTON (AP) — A bomb squad is removing a suspicious pipe-like cylinder found in the street near the U.S. Capitol.

U.S. Capitol Police said Thursday the device was being loaded into a specialized truck operated by their bomb squad and would be taken to Quantico, Va., to be rendered safe. The police statement did not offer more specifics.

The small metal cylinder with some caps on it was found on Pennsylvania Avenue around 7 a.m. Thursday. Authorities haven't been able to determine what it is.

Roads around the Capitol will remain closed until the device is driven away.
