Syria envoy: I'm not resigning

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The joint U.N.-Arab League envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, has quashed rumors that he is resigning his post.

Brahimi told reporters Friday after briefing the Security Council on Syria that he has not resigned, capping a week of widespread rumors and reports in the Arab world that he was quitting in frustration, or dumping his affiliation with the Arab League, which has officially recognized the Syrian opposition forces as the legitimate government.

Brahimi assumed the envoy role last year after former U.N. chief Kofi Annan quit in frustration.
