Teen charged in brutal torture slaying takes stand
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — An 18-year-old Pennsylvania woman charged with instigating the torture murder of a mentally disabled friend has taken the stand in her own defense.
Angela Marinucci began her testimony Tuesday by describing how she met five other people who also face charges in the February 2010 slaying of 30-year-old Jennifer Daugherty.
Early in her testimony, Marinucci denied being the girlfriend of 25-year-old co-defendant Ricky Smyrnes at the time of the killing. Prosecutors contend Marinucci goaded the others into torturing and killing Daugherty because she was jealous the woman was also seeing Smyrnes.
Marinucci says Smyrnes hadn't been her boyfriend for more than a year when Daugherty was forced to drink bleach and urine before being fatally stabbed inside a Greensburg, Pa., apartment.
