Toby Keith: Obama Doing ‘Great Job’ By Sending More Troops To Afghanistan
When asked whether President Obama made the right decision to escalate the troop levels in Afghanistan and to vow to pull out of Iraq in 19 months, Keith, who was speaking at a National Press Club luncheon, said: “Well, I don’t know, that’s not my decision to make. But Iraq definitely turned the corner. Petraeus did a wonderful job while it was on his watch and Iraq finally turned the corner.”
“However, our first original thing of being over there was to go to Afghanistan and find Osama Bin Laden,” said Keith. “So while we were trying to fight two wars, one we handled and the other one is escalated. So, I think he’s doing a great job. I think Obama’s doing a great job on putting troops in there. They need them in Afghanistan.”
In mid-February, it was reported that Obama ordered an additional 17,000 troops into Afghanistan to stabilize what he called a “deteriorating situation.” The president’s decision has increased the number of U.S. forces in Afghanistan by nearly 50 percent, bringing it to 55,000.
Toby Keith has released 12 studio albums so far in his career as a recording artist, including two Christmas albums, three Greatest Hits packages, and an additional compilation to his full-length studio albums. Among the songs he released as singles, 46 of them have appeared on the Billboard country charts. All but two of these singles reached the Top 40 or higher. Keith has been heavily involved with the United Service Organizations (USO), entertaining U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
One of Keith’s more popular songs he produced shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Entitled “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue,” it partly says,
Justice will be served
And the battle will rage.
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage.
And you’ll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
Cause we’ll put a boot in you’r a**
It’s the American way.
