Trial opens in adopted Russian boy's death in Pa.
YORK, Pa. (AP) — A trial is under way for a central Pennsylvania couple charged with killing their 7-year-old adopted son from Russia.
A lawyer for Michael and Nanette Craver told a York County jury Tuesday that Nathaniel Craver had a history of injuring himself, and the couple had done all they could to help him.
Prosecutors say the Cravers abused and neglected the boy, who officials say died of blunt force trauma in August 2009. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Tim Barker described a litany of injuries the boy suffered.
The Cravers face charges including criminal homicide and endangerment. They've been jailed since their arrests.
The death has been monitored by officials in Russia, which in July signed a treaty giving it more oversight of adopted children after they arrive in the United States.
