Venezuela's Chavez has pelvic surgery in Cuba
HAVANA (AP) — Venezuela's foreign minister says President Hugo Chavez has undergone surgery in Cuba.
Nicolas Maduro tells state-run Venezolana de Television that Chavez had the operation for a pelvic abscess.
Maduro says the procedure was "immediate" in nature but that Chavez is in good health. He says the president is recovering with family and should be able to return to Caracas in a few days.
The Venezuelan leader has been in Cuba the last few days. Cuban state TV says he met with President Raul Castro and close friend and ally Fidel Castro.
Chavez injured his knee last month, prompting him to postpone his current trip to Brazil, Ecuador and Cuba.
Maduro said the Cuba trip aggravated the condition that led to Friday's pelvic surgery.
