Victim's son, parents sue salon shooting suspect
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A man charged with killing his ex-wife and seven others in a shooting rampage at a Seal Beach hair salon has been sued by her family.
The civil lawsuit was filed Friday in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana on behalf of the parents of stylist Michelle Fournier and her 8-year-old son.
The suit seeks unspecified damages from the boy's father Scott Dekraai, who is charged with eight counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in the Oct. 12 shootings at Salon Meritage.
Dekraai was immersed in a custody dispute with Fournier over the boy. Dekraai is being held without bail.
Plaintiffs' attorney Eric Traut says the suit aims to obtain funds to help pay for the boy's education.
