Virginia Voters Decide Democratic Nominee for Governor

Fewer than 250,000 voters are likely to choose the Democratic nominee for governor in Virginia's Tuesday primaries.
Richmond, Va. (AP) - Fewer than 250,000 voters are likely to choose the Democratic nominee for governor in Virginia's Tuesday primaries.

The choices are former Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe, state Sen. Creigh Deeds and former state House Democratic Caucus leader Brian Moran.

Election and party officials believe less than 5 percent of the state's 5 million registered voters will take part in the election.

Combined, the three-man field has raised a state record of more than $15 million with the November election against Republican Bob McDonnell still five months off.

The light primary turnout may be further dampened Tuesday by statewide forecasts for showers and thunderstorms.
