(CNSNews.com) - Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) has now officially resigned from the House of Representatives—and House Speaker John Boehner (R.-Ohio) has the letter to prove it.
“I hereby resign as the Member of the House of Representatives for New York’s Ninth Congressional District effective at midnight Tuesday June 21, 2011,” Weiner wrote. “It has been an honor to serve the people of Queens and Brooklyn.”
The letter, dated June 20, is addressed to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D.) and Cesar Perales, New York’s Secretary of State. It is carbon-copied to Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.)
Boehner’s Spokesman Michael Steel distributed a PDF copy of the letter to reporters via email this afternoon. “We finally got Rep. Weiner's resignation letter,” was the subject line on Steel’s email.
