Wife of Mexican Drug Lord Gives Birth in California, Then Returns to Mexico
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The wife of Mexico's most wanted drug lord has given birth to twin girls at a hospital in northern Los Angeles County.
The Los Angeles Times reports Monday (http://lat.ms/nyfqmn ) that the 22-year-old wife of Joaquin Guzman delivered her daughters at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster on Aug. 15.
The newspaper cited birth records and U.S. law enforcement officials who tracked Emma Coronel's movement as she crossed the border to give birth and returned to Mexico after the babies were born.
Coronel is a former beauty queen who holds U.S. citizenship. Their birth certificates listed Coronel as the mother, but the spaces for the father's name are blank.
Guzman is the multibillionaire head of Mexico's most powerful drug-trafficking gang, the Sinaloa cartel.
