Woman mauled by chimp says happy with new face
GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut woman who was mauled by a chimpanzee says she's pleased with her new transplanted face.
Charla Nash says in an interview with Sky News of London that for the first time people tell her she looks beautiful. She says she looks OK now and doesn't worry about scaring anyone. The interview aired Thursday night.
The Greenwich Time reports (http://bit.ly/uboThw) that the 58-year-old Nash says she's disappointed a hand transplant was unsuccessful. She says she hopes it will succeed one day.
Nash was attacked in February 2009 by a neighbor's 200-pound pet chimpanzee who went berserk after his owner asked Nash to help lure him back into her house in Stamford. The animal, named Travis, ripped off Nash's nose, lips, eyelids and hands before being fatally shot by police.
