HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — A small plane has landed on the Florida Turnpike north of Miami.

Television pictures show the plane landed Wednesday afternoon on the highway near Hollywood and broke in several places. It didn't appear to have hit any cars.

Hollywood police say the plane landed in the turnpike's northbound lanes and all traffic has been stopped.

Broward County Aviation Department spokesman Gregory Meyer says the plane departed from the Opa Locka airport and was headed to the North Perry Airport.

Meyer says two people were on board and transported to a hospital.

Messages left for a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman were not immediately returned.

The single-engine plane's tail number is registered to a leasing company in Miami.
