(CNSNews.com) -- Real estate mogul Donald Trump said that Republican political consultant Karl Rove, who served as a senior adviser and deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush, was responsible for helping Barack Obama win the presidency in the 2008 election.

“Well, it was really Karl Rove who gave us Obama,” said Trump in an interview on the nationally syndicated talk-radio program The Mark Levin Show on Wednesday, explaining that Rove, in his senior position under Bush, helped create the challenging political climate of 2008.

The exchange between Mark Levin and Donald Trump occurred as follows:

Levin:  “Now, by the way, you and I have something else in common, and that is, we embrace the Tea Party movement, we know in 2010 the Tea Party won the House of Representatives for the Republicans. Now they’re under attack by of all people Karl Rove. What do you think of that?"

Trump: “Well, it was really Karl Rove who gave us Obama. Because, say what you want about Bush, and I’ve never been a big Bush fan, as you probably know very well and you haven’t either, by the way. But I haven’t been a big Bush fan because things that he did were obviously not so good and it would have been very hard for Abraham Lincoln to win the election at that point because of what took place. And you know, Karl Rove was sitting right there, he was right at the controls.”

Then, commenting on how a political action committee founded by Rove raised and then spent money in the 2012 elections, Trump said, “The thing that really bothers me, however, is he raised $400 million – spent $400 million on fighting Democrats – didn’t win a race. Didn’t do well in any races and just took $400 million and threw it out the window.”
