Best of The Week 11/8/13

November 8, 2013 - 12:34 PM

In this look at the CNSNews.com Best of The Week we break out the ‘jump to conclusions mat’ but we doubt you’ll make the jumps the government did.

The debt of the federal government jumped up by $409 billion in the month of October, according to the U.S. Treasury.

That equals approximately $3,567 for each household in the United States and is the second-largest one-month jump in the debt in the history of the country.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has jumped to the conclusion that ongoing fixes to healthcare.gov are better than a website shutdown.

Sebelius told the Senate Finance Committee that healthcare.gov isn’t fatally flawed, insisting it just needs “a couple of hundred functional fixes” worked out.

A couple of hundred does sound better than a couple of hundred billion. The amount of outstanding federal student loan debt owed to the government is now over $674 billion. An increase of 463 percent since 2009.

What’s the best way to grow the economy and reduce the federal deficit? The president on Tuesday jumped to the conclusion that it’s a "pathway to citizenship" for illegal aliens.

The president says he sees no reason why a pathway to citizenship could not be enacted by the end of the year.

One thing you don’t have to wait a few months for is a song about Obamacare. Healthcare.gov’s impact has turned musical. As song parody of ‘Amarillo By Morning’ was featured during the Country Music Awards this week.
