Sheriff: 1 student shot, wounded at NC high school
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A 15-year-old girl is in fair condition after being shot in the neck while outside on her lunch period at a high school near Fayetteville.
Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna says Catilyn (KATE-linn) Abercrombie was taken to a hospital after the 1 p.m. shooting Monday on the campus of Cape Fear High School.
Police locked down both the high school and a nearby middle school. Students at the high school were searched before police gradually began letting them go home to their families.
A call to a telephone listing for Abercrombie's mother was not immediately returned.
No one had been arrested and no weapon found by Monday evening. Cumberland County school officials plan to have increased security for Tuesday classes.
