Israel irked by diplomat's tacit Nazi remark

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Israel's ambassador is calling on the United Nations chief to suspend a U.N. agency head for tacitly comparing the Jewish state to Nazi Germany.

Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor is calling for the suspension of Rima Khalaf, the head of the Arab-oriented Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia.

UN to grill Vatican again on clergy sex abuse

NEW YORK (AP) — A second U.N. committee plans to question Vatican officials on its failures to stop clergy sex abuse.

The hearing scheduled for May in Geneva will review whether the Vatican's record on child protection violates the Convention Against Torture. The Holy See ratified the treaty in 2002.

UN Security Council meets on Ukraine crisis

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. Security Council has called an emergency meeting at Russia's request to discuss the growing crisis in Ukraine.

Russia's U.N. mission sent a text message to reporters saying a closed meeting of the Security Council would begin at 8 p.m. Sunday (0000 GMT). The Russian mission said it had requested the meeting.
