UIL Holdings to buy Philadelphia Gas Works

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — UIL Holdings says it will expand its natural gas business by spending $1.86 billion in cash to buy the operations of Philadelphia Gas Works, which serves about 500,000 customers.

WR Jeremy Maclin, Eagles agree to 1-year contract

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jeremy Maclin gets a second chance to play in Chip Kelly's offense.

Maclin and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed on a one-year contract, preventing the wide receiver from becoming a free agent next month. Maclin missed the entire 2013 season after tearing his right ACL in training camp.

Rare 1778 letter from George Washington for sale

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An inspirational 1778 letter written by George Washington to the leaders of Philadelphia during the Revolutionary War is for sale.

Nathan Raab, a dealer in rare letters and autographs, tells Newsworks.org (http://bit.ly/1fz3bqW) that Washington wrote the letter in December 1778, shortly after British forces withdrew from Philadelphia.
