NJ fire that could be smelled in NYC is contained

WASHINGTON, N.J. (AP) — The odor of smoke from a brush fire in southern New Jersey can be smelled as far away as New York City.

The fire has burned more than 1,500 acres, or about 2 square miles, along Batsto Road in Wharton State Forest. The smoke can be seen for miles.

3 children killed in central Pennsylvania fire

DANVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say an early morning fire killed three children in central Pennsylvania.

Officials say the fire was reported at about 1:20 a.m. Friday in a home outside Danville, about 100 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
