(CNSNews.com) - “The medium is the message,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) tweeted Monday night, as her “tax the rich” gown stole the show at the swanky Met gala, the celebrity-studded fashion fund-raiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Tickets to the event reportedly go for at least $30,000.

AOC tweeted a photo of her dress, the designer, and the following message:

Proud to work with @aurorajames as a sustainably focused, Black woman immigrant designer who went from starting her dream @brothervellies at a flea market in Brooklyn to winning the @cfda against all odds – and then work together to kick open the doors at the Met.

The time is now for childcare, healthcare, and climate action for all. Tax the Rich.

AOC tweeted the following message with a photo of her dress.

Anticipating criticism, AOC also tweeted:

“And before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the city’s cultural institutions for the public. I was one of several in attendance in this evening." (She included a smiley emoji)

Ocasio-Cortez is an unabashed democratic socialist who is credited with pulling the Democrat Party even further to the left.
