(CNSNews.com) - President Joe Biden gave a speech on July 8 to explain his plan for removing all U.S. forces from Afghanistan by September—and in a question-and-answer session following that speech guaranteed that “there’s gonna be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of a embassy of the United States from Afghanistan.”

“Our military mission in Afghanistan will conclude on August 31st,” Biden said in that speech. “The draw down is proceeding in the secure and orderly way, prioritizing the safety of our troops as they depart.”

After his speech a reporter asked Biden this question: “Mr. President, some Vietnamese veterans see echoes of their experience in this withdrawal in Afghanistan. Do you see any parallels between this withdrawal and what happened in Vietnam, with some people feeling—”

Biden responded: “None whatsoever, zero. What you had is you had entire brigades breaking through the gates of our embassy. Six, if I'm not mistaken. The Taliban is not the South--the North Vietnamese Army. They're not remotely comparable in terms of capability. There's gonna be no circumstance where you see people being lifted off the roof of a embassy of the United States from Afghanistan. It is not at all comforble [sic].”
