(CNS News) -- When asked whether there should be a maximum age limit for the presidency, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) said “the voters ought to” decide. But he added that President Joe Biden is “unfit” for office “for a number of reasons” besides his age.

The senator also accused the liberal media of “cover[ing] up” for Biden, noting that the press “got a guy who campaigned from his basement elected.”

At the U.S. Capitol on June 22, CNS News asked Sen. Johnson, “The Constitution requires the president to be at least 35 years old. Should there be a limit on how old the president can be?”

The senator replied, “Well, I mean the voters ought to really place that limitation on a president. I was pretty upfront about Joe Biden – he was unfit for a number of reasons – the level of compromise because of Biden Inc., and, you know, it’s sad.”

“He’s obviously showing age, he was showing it before the election,” said Johnson. “But, you know, the media – let’s face it – you guys propped him up, covered up for him, suppressed the Hunter [Biden] story, got a guy who campaigned from his basement elected.”

“So, I would consider the media pretty complicit in the fact that we’re now seeing what transformed America looks like, and it’s not pretty,” said the senator.

Johnson’s remarks come days after Biden fell off his bicycle when he stopped to speak with some people near his home in Delaware. Secret Service agents helped Biden get up, and the 79-year-old president apparently did not need medical attention.

As can be seen in the video, and as Biden himself said later, his right foot got stuck in the toe clip on the bicycle pedal and he fell.

Commenting on Biden’s health, conservative Ben Shapiro said, “The number of clips that are floating around of Joe Biden not being able to speak words out of his face hole is incredibly high. Because every time he goes in public, he cannot speak words out of his face hole, or he’s falling off a bike, or he’s falling down the stairs.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has said that Biden plans to run for reelection in 2024.

Other journalists like Mark Leibovich at The Atlantic cite Biden’s age as a reason for him to not run for reelection, despite dismissing current criticism as “disrespectful, ageist, and taboo.”

Leibovich noted that Biden will be 82 at the start of a hypothetical second term and added, “The numbers just keep getting more ridiculous from there.”

According to Biden’s health summary in November 2021, “The President remains fit for duty, and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations.”

Biden was 78 at the time of his inauguration, making him the oldest person ever sworn in as president, the New York Times reports. He will be 80 in November.
