On Wednesday, Oregon’s Democrat Governor Kate Brown issued a coronavirus mask mandate dictating fines and jail time for violators – but, said people “won’t get arrested or get a tick for not wearing a face covering,” even though her order is, somehow, “enforceable.”
Gov. Brown’s mask mandate will go into effect in seven counties on Wednesday, June 24 – but, the penalty people face for disobeying her order is unclear, the Newport News Times reports:
“Brown’s message on enforcement of the order was not entirely clear. She said it would have the same legal weight as her other pandemic-related orders — violation of which is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a $1,250 fine and/or 30 days in jail — but that voluntary compliance through education was the goal.
“’No, that doesn’t mean you have to wear a mask while you eat at a restaurant or drink a cup of coffee. And no, you won’t get arrested or get a ticket for not wearing a face covering. However, this is a requirement, and it is enforceable,’ Brown said.”
