Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said she’s sick of the bipartisanship practiced by fellow Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and accused him of being complicit in “killing people” after he voiced opposition to his party’s $3.5 trillion budget bill stuffed with spending on climate change initiatives.
On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortes responded on Twitter to a Wall Street Journal commentary by Sen. Manchin, in which he explains his concerns about Democrats’ massive spending plans:
“I, for one, won’t support a $3.5 trillion bill, or anywhere near that level of additional spending, without greater clarity about why Congress chooses to ignore the serious effects inflation and debt have on existing government programs.”
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez declared her disgust with bipartisan fossil fuel bills, tweeting:
“Manchin has weekly huddles w/ Exxon & is one of many senators who gives lobbyists their pen to write so-called “bipartisan” fossil fuel bills.
“It’s killing people. Our people. At least 12 last night. Sick of this “bipartisan” corruption that masquerades as clear-eyed moderation.”
“Amid inflation, debt and the inevitability of future crises, Congress needs to take a strategic pause,” Sen. Manchin explains in his commentary.
