Instead of listening to “the fake Dr. (Joe) Scarborough,” President Donald Trump actually “consulted with a real medical doctor before taking hydroxychloroquine,” White House Press Sec. Kayleigh McEnany said Tuesday after the MSNBC host declared that Trump was lying about taking the drug.

McEnany made the comment in reply to a Twitter post by Turning Point USA’s Benny Johnson:

“MSNBC’s @JoeNBC claims, without evidence, that President Trump is lying about taking Hydroxychloroquine and falsely states that the drug ‘will kill you’.”

The tweet included a video clip of Scarborough assuring his viewers that Trump was lying on Monday when he said he was taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug that has been prescribed for years, as a precaution against the coronavirus.

In the video, Scarborough said Trump's claim was meant to be a distraction:

“It was thrown out as a distraction, because the president always wants to distract from his failures.

“When the president of the United States actually says he’s doing – which, let me assure you he is not doing – let me assure you the president of the United States is not taking Hydroxychloroquine.”

As evidence, Scarborough said that, “in all the time” he’d known Trump (a single meal), Trump used sanitizing wipes before eating:

“In all the time that I knew him - I only sat for one meal with him - and before that meal he had wipes, like this high, and he would just go through the wipes compulsively and wipe his hands, sanitize his hands before eating anything. So, he’s not taking something that his own administration has said will kill you, that his own FDA said will kill you, that the VA said will kill you.”

Press Sec. McEnany replied, assuring that Pres. Trump had, indeed, consulted with a real doctor before beginning the drug regime – and that he’s still in great health:

“Thankfully, President @realDonaldTrump is NOT listening to the fake Dr. Scarborough and instead consulted with a real medical doctor before taking hydroxychoroquine.

“Happy to report that the President continues to be in great health!”
