While pro-immigration groups protested at the offices of several GOP lawmakers last week, others interrupted a House subcommittee hearing, telling lawmakers that they will confront “your anti-immigrant and racist sentiments.”
During the Feb. 11, Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security hearing on immigration enforcement legislation, protestors stood up and alerted GOP lawmakers that pro-immigration supporters were heading to their offices.
“And we are letting your staff and visitors know that when you attack immigrants you are attacking America. We will continue to be calm and confront you against your anti-immigrant and racist sentiments,” yelled one protestor at the hearing.
Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) called for the protestors to be removed.
In a press release The Alliance for Citizenship addressed their protest of GOP offices last Wednesday, “Republicans have engaged in ceaseless attacks on hardworking immigrant families,” said CASA de Maryland President Gustavo Torres in the release. “When our children vote in 2016 they will not forget the party that sought to destroy their parents.”
