A man with a tire iron in his head drove to a gas station in New Zealand and calmly asked for help, according witnesses.

According to the U.K.’s Telegraph, Adam Armitage, 23, walked into the station with blood streaming down his head, stunning the cashier and the owner of the station.

Mr. Armitage then asked the cashier if she could phone the police to inform them that he had been attacked.

The tire iron was removed at an area hospital, where Armitage is being treated.

Police are investigating the incident.
