"There's no way in hell we're going to take those signs down."

As reported by KTSA in San Antonio, those are the words of Jim Danner, the mayor of Hondo, Texas.

Since 1932, signs that proclaimed "This Is God's Country - Please Don't Drive Through It Like Hell" have stood at both sides of the town. Recently representatives from the Freedom From Religion Foundation representatives asked city officials to remove the signs.

Danner told KTSA’s Trey Ware,” We consider our community to be God’s Country and this is a sign that recognizes that and is famous all over the United States.”

Annie Laurie Gaylor, Co-President of Freedom From Religion Foundation, told KTSA, “Some people may want to flee ‘God’s Country’ faster than hell.”
