On his nationally syndicated radio talk show Monday, host Mark Levin criticized President Obama’s move to act unilaterally on gun control saying, “You want to reduce crime and terrorism? Then we need Obama control.”
“You want to reduce crime in this country?” asked Levin. “Obama’s weak on crime; he’s weak on terrorism; he’s weak on terrorists; he’s releasing prisoners from federal prisons; he’s releasing terrorists from Guantanamo Bay; he’s investigating and nationalizing local police departments. Now he wants to disarm the American people, or more of us. You want to reduce crime and terrorism? Then we need Obama control. We need liberal control. That's what we need.”
Below is a transcript of Mark Levin’s comments:
“So, Obama looks for every opportunity to institute a different kind of government, different than that which is set forth in the Constitution. Even today, despite all this, you have Republicans, you have pseudo-conservatives writing on some of these websites, these commentators – they don’t view this as a big deal – just more of the same, the election of a new president will fix it. We just have to adjust over time, or they accept this as inevitable, as unavoidable. Then they attack those of us who confront it and fight it. We’re ‘extremists.’
“Separation of powers, separation of powers in the Bill of Rights are under assault in one attack by this president. Both were established to control the federal government, to control Obama, to control future presidents and future federal officials. They were established to prevent the passions of the day or the power of factions from fundamentally and permanently altering our governing system.
“You see, our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, the notion of separation of powers, they’re bigger than Obama; they’re bigger than Congress; they’re bigger than the Courts; they’re bigger than any federal department or agency; they’re bigger than the federal government. At least, they’re supposed to be.
“They exist for us. They belong to us. The Constitution belongs to you, not to Obama. Obama’s supposed to faithful execute his duties under the Constitution, not fundamentally transform America, not change our governing system. That’s extraconstitutional. That’s a violation of his oath. And the use of this massive and increasingly growing administrative state – the fourth branch of government as I call it, an arm of the presidency, mostly an arm of the left – has as its purpose, ladies and gentlemen, to bypass any semblance of republicanism, to smother the consent of the governed. It replaces the constitutional system. They call it progressive. They call it common sense. They call it reform. They call it reasonable. They can call it whatever they want. It takes decision-making out of your hands.
“CNN, on Thursday, is holding a discussion with Obama about guns, but the discussion isn’t about guns. It’s about the Bill of Rights. The discussion isn’t about guns. It’s about the separation of powers. The discussion isn’t about guns. It’s about the Constitution, all of which are in place, specifically to protect us from Obama and the courts and Congress from getting too powerful. And there’s nothing in the Constitution that even creates this fourth branch of government, the bureaucracy. It just gets bigger and bigger and bigger.
“I’m going to get into this a little bit more deeply as the program goes on, but do you want to save lives in this country? You don’t save lives by attacking the Bill of Rights, which the left hate.
“The left hates the Bill of Rights, unless you are a mass murderer or a terrorist, then all of a sudden they talk about due process and free speech and so forth and so on. But if you’re a law-abiding American citizen, particularly if you are white, male and Christian, none of that seems to apply, does it?
“You want to reduce crime in this country? Obama’s weak on crime; he’s weak on terrorism; he’s weak on terrorists; he’s releasing prisoners from federal prisons; he’s releasing terrorists from Guantanamo Bay; he’s investigating and nationalizing local police departments. Now he wants to disarm the American people, or more of us. You want to reduce crime and terrorism? Then we need Obama control. We need liberal control. That’s what we need.
“And he says during his radio address – we’ll get into this – ‘If you have a gun, you can keep your gun. If you have a rifle, you can keep your rifle.’ I thought to myself, ‘Oh, is that like our insurance? If you have your insurance, and you like it, you can keep it. If you have your doctor, you like him or her, you can keep them. No you can’t.’
“Tyranny masks itself, ladies and gentlemen, in a republican or a democracy. It masks itself. It tries to comfort you with false words, with propaganda, and scare you at the same time. Somehow, these loopholes will be closed and more lives will be protected, and if the loopholes are closed and more lives aren’t protected, there’s always more loopholes to close, because we call it liberty. We call it liberty."
