Sony's forthcoming movie-version of Cinderella will include the gay male performer Billy Porter in the role of the "Fairy Godmother."

Porter, who is "married" to Adam Smith, is known particularly for his Emmy Award winning work in FX's Pose, a TV series about black and Latino homosexuals and transvestites.

"The new Cinderella will be a music-oriented version of the traditional tale of the orphaned girl with an evil stepmother," reported NBC News. "Sony is putting the project on the fast track for production."

The film is scheduled to be released on Feb. 5, 2021. Pop-singer Camila Cabello is signed to play Cinderella, and Cabello reportedly is "integrally involved" in the music for the movie. It will be her first professional acting role.  Actress Idina Menzel is slated to play the evil stepmother.

Billy Porter won an Emmy Award in September for his role as "Pray Tell" in Pose. Porter is the first openly gay black man to win an Emmy in the category, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama series.

Pose, which tells the story of gays and transvestites competing in underworld ballroom competitions in the 1980s, is largely a pro-LGBT propaganda show.

According to its website, Pose employs the "largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles," and "features the largest recurring cast of LGBTQ actors ever for a scripted series."
