During a discussion with several commentators about whether Bruce (“Caitlyn") Jenner deserved the ESPY Arthur Ashe Courage Award for coming out as a transgender, reporter Zoey Tur, who is also transgender, threatened conservative Ben Shapiro, literally grabbing his neck and telling him to stop his remarks  “or you’ll go home in an ambulance.”

Tur also allegedly threatened Shapiro again, after the discussion show, telling him, “I’ll see you in the parking lot.”  Shapiro, a syndicated columnist and author, filed a police report against Tur.

On the July 16 Dr. Drew on Call, a show broadcast on HLN, which is owned by CNN, host Dr. Drew Pinsky ran a clip of Bruce Jenner speaking at the ESPY award show and then asked Shapiro, “Ben, did she [Jenner] deserve this award?”

Shapiro said, “For what?”  Pinsky then followed-up, “For courageously coming forward, for having been an athlete of great prowess, and now fighting a new battle?”

Shapiro said, “What exactly is the battle?   I mean, self-definition is what you do and my baby is doing it at 18-months-old and I wasn’t aware you get a medal for it.”

Shortly thereafter, the transgender reporter Zoey Tur said that Jenner probably did not deserve the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. “Did she deserve the honor?” said Tur. “Probably not. Is she brave? Of course she’s brave. All those years invested as the sports legend, to come out transgender is horribly difficult. It is the most difficult thing you can do.”

“I’ve been overseas, I’ve flown helicopter missions, surveillance missions, I’ve been shot, stabbed,” said Tur.  “Being brave is being yourself. And being transgender is about the bravest thing you can do.”

Shapiro later jumped into the conversation, saying, “Why are we mainstreaming delusion?”

Asked why he would call it “delusion,” Shapiro said, “Because Bruce, Caitlyn Jenner – I’ll call him Caitlyn Jenner – ”

Co-host Samantha “Sam” Schacher interrupted, “No, it’s her! You’re not being polite to the pronouns. It’s disrespectful.”

Shapiro responded, “Okay, forget about the disrespect -- facts don’t care about your feelings. It turns out that every chromosome, every cell in Caitlyn Jenner’s body, is male, with the exception of some of his sperm cells. … It turns out that he still has all of his male appendages. How he feels on the inside is irrelevant to the question of his biological self.”

That point went around the panel a little and then Dr. Drew said, “In terms of the science behind gender dysphoria, you’re very familiar with that, Zoey. It’s not about the – excuse me – the chromosomes within our nuclei?”

Tur said, “We both know that chromosomes don’t necessarily mean you’re male or female, with gender, of course. But even so, you have a thing like Klinefelter’s syndrome.”

Turning to Ben Shapiro, Tur put his left arm on Shapiro’s back and said, “So, you don’t know what you’re talking about, you’re not educated on genetics –.”

Shapiro said, “Are we going to discuss genetics now?  What are your genetics, sir?”

Dr. Drew then interjected, “Zoey, I’d stay away from the genetics and back to the brain scans.”

At that point, Tur put his left around partly around Shapiro’s neck (see video) and said, “You cut that out now, or you’ll go home in an ambulance.”

Facing Tur, Shapiro said, “That seems mildly inappropriate for a political discussion.”

Several other panelists then jumped into the conversation and entertainment journalist Segun Oduolowu said that Shapiro was being rude. Shapiro responded, “I’m sorry, it’s not rude to say that someone who’s biologically a male is a male. Someone who’s biologically a male is a male.”

Tur twice commented that Shapiro had called him “sir.” Then another panelist, Mike Catherwood, accused Shapiro of being “aggressively insulting.”

Shapiro – a conservative who was literally outnumbered 6-to-1 by liberals on the program – then said, “The entire discussion is whether we are embracing mental illness and delusion as a society.  That’s the entirety of the discussion.”

Near the conclusion of the show, Dr. Drew said, “We’ll keep it going but later, but no aggression, no violence.”

On Sunday, July 19, Ben Shapiro filed a police report of “battery” with the Los Angeles Police Department, as reported by Breitbart. In the police report, it is noted that “vict [victim] became involved in verbal argument over TG [transgender] issues on the Dr. Drew on Call Show on CNN. Susp became angry and reacted/grabbed vict’s neck stating “you cut that out or you will go home in an ambulance.”

The report was written by a police officer and signed by Shapiro.

Breitbart also reported the following: “Shapiro later alleged that Tur had threatened him after the appearance, ‘I’ll see you in the parking lot,’ and that CNN security had escorted Shapiro to his car after ensuring Tur had left the premises.”
