Chris Matthews: George Washington's Family Had 'Values Problems'

While covering Pres. Obama's second inauguration this morning, MSNBC's Chris Matthews took a moment to accuse the first First Family of having "values problems."

During the coverage, Matthews launched into an anecdote about where George Washington is buried. He explained that the first family was originally meant to be entombed at the foot of the Capitol building in Washington, DC.

Instead, they were buried at Mount Vernon. Matthews said the Washington family chose "wisely" in this case - "despite its other values problems":

Chris Matthews: "Down behind those last set of stairs they came down, around the corner, is something, at the very bottom, very central point in DC, the actual middle point, is what was going to be Washington's tombs where they were going to bury the first family."

Rachel Maddow: "Oh, oh wow."

Matthews: "And, wisely I think, the Washington family, despite its other values problems, decided better back at Mount Vernon, you know."

Maddow: "Than here."
