Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) says he’s firmly against transgender surgery being performed on minors and, if given the chance, he would sign a bill prohibiting the procedure.
“Is Florida interested in passing legislation banning trans surgery procedures for minors?” Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) Host Mary Margaret Olohan asked the governor in an interview.
“Oh, I’m very much opposed to chemical castration of minors,” DeSantis replied.
“I mean, I think that that’s a really, really – I mean, honestly I didn’t even know that this existed until a few years ago,” DeSantis said.
“So, that would be something I would sign, for sure,” he said.
As the Daily Caller reports, Florida lawmakers recently did try to pass legislation prohibiting transgender surgery on minors, but their bill failed to make it out of subcommittee:
“Earlier this year, Florida lawmakers introduced legislation to ban transgender surgeries and procedures for children, titled the Youth Gender and Sexual Identity Act, but the bill died in a Professions & Public Health Subcommittee on April 30.”
Earlier this month, DeSantis signed into law a bill prohibiting biological males who identify as transgender females from competing against biological women in sports.
