(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Friday morning to discuss President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign promise to “build a wall along the southern border.”
Gohmert assured host Steve Doocy that the wall “will get done,” arguing that in the past “there’s been billions of dollars appropriated for a virtual wall,” but “Janet Napolitano head of Homeland Security, she just said, you know what, I don’t want to do that, and we let her get away with disobeying the law.”
Doocy asked Gohmert if he thought Trump would run into a wall with Congress in delivering on his promise to build a wall.
“He may have trouble with some,” Gohmert replied, “but I’ve been thrilled the way our Republican leadership this week has just gotten all excited about Trump. You know, as my friend Paul Ryan said, gee he was hearing voices none of the rest of us heard. Well actually, Steve, some of us were hearing those voices, and we were telling them, but apparently they weren’t listening.
“There’s been billions of dollars appropriated for a virtual wall,” Gohmert said, “Janet Napolitano, head of Homeland Security, she just said, you know what, I don’t want to do that, and we let her get away with disobeying the law.”
“It will be awesome to have a president and a cabinet that will follow the law,” Gohmert said.
Gohmert added that “another big bunch of money would be for all of the illegals we’ve been in-processing. We’ll be able to spend that more on the wall than we are on in-processing, but there’s billions of dollars. We couldn’t find out where they are. He can get started when he has a good Homeland Security secretary.
“It’s amazing what you can get Congress to do when you lead and push them in the right direction,” Gohmert concluded. “Actually, you know we had appropriated money during the Bush administration that didn’t get spent for the wall. So yeah, it’s going to be great to have somebody that’s actually following the law.”
