(CNSNews.com) – Throughout the 2016 presidential campaign and on his website, President-elect Donald Trump said his administration would build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to help control illegal immigrantion, a pledge that Trump reaffirmed in his Nov. 13 interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes.
In that interview, CBS’s Lesley Stahl asked Trump, “Are you really going to build a wall?”
Trump said, “Yes.”
Stahl then said, “They’re talking about a fence in the Republican Congress, would you accept a fence?
Trump said, “For certain areas, I would. But certain areas, a wall is more appropriate. I’m very good at this. It’s called construction…. It could be some fencing.”
At a rally in early February 2016, Trump told the crowd, “We are going to have borders nice and strong. We are going to build a wall. You know that. Going to build the wall…. Mexico is going to pay for the wall. Right? It’s going to happen. Going to happen. They know it. I know it. We all know it.”
On Feb. 29, on Fox’s Hannity show, Trump said, “Well, look, we’re going to have a border. It’s going to be a real border, and we’re going to build a wall and it’s going to be a serious wall. Just remember that. And you remember I said it…. It's going to be a serious wall. It's going to be a real wall. It's not going to be a wall that they just climb up, and you know, you see what they do, over.”
On Aug. 23, CNN Newsroom ran a video clip of Trump saying, “We’re going to build a wall, folks. We’re going to build a wall. We’re going to build it. Don’t worry. We’re going to build a wall. That wall will go up so fast your head will spin.”
Also, on the Trump-Pence website, under “Immigration,” there is a “10 Point Plan to Put America First.” The No. 1 item on the list says, “Begin working on an impenetrable physical wall on the southern border, on day one. Mexico will pay for the wall.”
