(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), who won a special election in June to replace former House Speaker John Boehner, said on Thursday that if Hillary Clinton were just a federal employee or member of the U.S. military who had mishandled classified information, she would have lost her security clearance.
“People lose their clearances over this stuff,” Davidson said at the Heritage Foundation’s Conversations with Conservatives at the Capitol. “And to say that you can’t hold a clearance and you’re sitting on the most sensitive information in the world as the president of the United States that but for that status you wouldn’t hold the clearance? If you were an employee or on active duty she would have lost her clearance.”
Reporters asked Davidson and other lawmakers taking part in the discussion about FBI Director James Comey’s announcement on Tuesday the he would not recommend that Clinton, a former Secretary of State and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, be indicted for sending classified information on her unsecured personal email server.
“It’s amazing to think that along with having someone who uttered the words: ‘What difference does it make?’ about Benghazi has now completely abused classified information,” Davidson said. “And, frankly, as a former Army guy – anybody that’s worked with classified information would – people lose their clearances over this stuff.

“That’s a choice people really should weigh,” Davidson said. “So for the people that say these emails don’t really matter, this isn’t just regular email. This is stuff that people have gone to jail for – they’ve ruined careers over carelessly handling classified information.”
