( – Planned Parenthood is reminding Americans to observe February as National Condom Month, and, as one affiliate put it, "celebrate all things condom."

February, Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan says on its website, is "the 'month for lovers,' and not so coincidentally, it’s also National Condom Month.

"What better time to celebrate all things condom, and spread the word about this mighty, ancient soldier in the fight against STDs and unintended pregnancy," says the website.

"Celebrating the condom!" says Planned Parenthood affiliate. "This front-line warrior in the battle for your sexual health often gets a 'bad wrap.' Of all the tools in our sexual health toolkits, what else puts itself out there literally as a physical barrier between you and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), AND between you and unintended pregnancy?"

Deeper into the posting, however, the Planned Parenthood site warns that people sometimes still get venereal diseases when using condoms.

"When it comes to STDs, condoms prevent skin-to-skin contact, helping prevent against the spread of STDs. But it is still possible to spread STDs that are occurring outside the protected area," said the Planned Parenthood site.

The organization vowed to distribute at least 3 freed condoms per day to anybody who dropped by its offices, and to provide condoms over-and-above the 3-free limit at just 25 cents a piece.

"Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan locations offer THREE FREE CONDOMS A DAY, every day, to clients and non-clients alike, during regular business hours. Just stop in and ask," said the website. "Want more than three? They’re only 25-cents each."

According to its latest annual report, Planned Parenthood received $487.4 million in tax dollars in its organizational fiscal 2010 and performed 329,455 abortions.
