'Time Has Come for Vengeance,' Islamist Website Declares

(CNSNews.com) - A group called "the Secret Organization of al Qaeda in Europe" released a letter claiming responsibility for Thursday's bombings in London. The group warned that Denmark and Italy would face the "same punishment" if they failed to withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The letter was posted on the website "el qal3ah.com," according to the Italian news organization ANSA. Germany's Der Spiegel obtained a screenshot of the letter, which commands the "community of Muslims" to rejoice, for "the heroic mujahedeen carried out a blessed attack in London, and now Britain is burning with fear and terror, from north to south, east to west.

"The time has come for vengeance against the Zionist crusader government of Britain in response to the massacres Britain committed in Iraq and Afghanistan," the letter states.

"We warned the British government and the British people repeatedly," it continues. "We have carried out our promise and carried out a military attack in Britain after great efforts by the heroic mujahedeen over a long period to ensure its success."

News reports about the letter resulted in the Islamist website being shut down. El qal3ah.com is popular with Islamic militants, according to Elaph, an Arabic-language news website.

The London bombings resemble the March 2004 attacks targeting public transportation in Madrid. German security analyst Rolph Tophoven said that "[w]e have to assume it's a terrorist attack" because "[t]here are lots of parallels with the Madrid blasts."

Security analyst Sebestyen Gorka pointed out that the synchronized attacks are "pretty classic for al Qaeda-related organizations."

Al Qaeda in Europe claimed responsibility for the series of train bombings in Madrid that resulted in 191 deaths.

It is not known what, if any, affiliation "the Secret Organization of al Qaeda in Europe" has with a group using the simpler designation: "al Qaeda in Europe."
